- Abstract
- Adams is happy to read the resolutions of Congress of the 21st of March, relieved that there has been settlement of so many great controversies. The Union of States is an object of such magnitude that great sacrifices ought to be made to its preservation. Encloses letter from American captives in Algiers: 13 February 1787, American Captives to Adams, DNA: 11947 (printed in DC V 249-251, but not on film) Adams requests orders to return home; conduct of Br Court in neglecting to send a Minister to America renders it impossible for Adams to remain there. Should England think it necessary, after Adams has left, to send a Minister to America, they will find that Adams' successor will be as unmoldable as Adams has been. "This country is in a shocking situation...and will never seduce an American mind from his duty."
