Abstract
Informs Jefferson that a Boston merchant who was unable to dispose of his cargo of whale oil on account of the duties exacted has been relieved by the king of this payment. He and other Americans, until January 1, 1787, shall pay the same duties on fish oils as the inhabitants of the Hansa towns, provided that these oils are transported in American or French vessels. According to Julian P. Boyd, Papers of Thomas Jefferson, vol.IX p. 139, enclosed in: 2 January 1786, Jefferson to John Jay.
