Abstract
Count D'Expilly arrived in Algiers with orders to say that the offers made to the Dey by Don Joseph de Mazzarredo were without orders, and were disapproved by the King. The Count had complained that the Dey had let Algerian cruisers sail before his return. He extracted from the Dey the promise not to allow any more to sail before March [1786?]. The De y said that he would have any of his subjects who insulted the Spanish flag or laid hands on a Spanish vessel strangled. All the cruisers returned to Algiers without incident. Moreover, they returned the crews of two wrecked ships to the Count.
