- Abstract
- Short is happy that John Jay approves of his communications. Jefferson will write about great events in Europe: that the great dispute in France is whether the annual deficit of 140 million shall be made up by economies on the part of the Crown or by an increase in taxes; that the Porte has declared war on Russia; that the crisis in Holland will force a decision on the question of the sovereignty of the States General.
