- Abstract
- Lists miscellaneous expenditures totaling 53/19/6, pounds such as payment for a blank book, for binding two books, for a trunk to carry papers to Hartford (13 shillings sixpence); for a chest to carry the papers from Hartford, the trunk having broken on the journey (one pound ten shillings); for clerks, and room, fire, and candle for them for nearly t wo months (two pounds); for Jay's own journey to Hartford at one pound eight shillings a day (22 pounds 8 shillings). One sheet in another hand lists payment due to Jay for his work for 153 days from 18 July to 20 December 1769 at 20 shillings a day, and for 96 days at 28shillings a day. In Jay's hand, this is corrected to 155 days at 20 shillings a day. Arithmetical jottings in Jay's hand check the amount still owed to him. Evidently he had been paid for 80 days at 28 shillings a day, and 43 pounds was still due to him. Mostly in Jay's hand.
