- Abstract
- Washington has just been informed that a number of enemy transports, each with a flat bottomed boat, a warship with sixteen guns, and five or six privateers went up the Sound a few days before to join the Scorpion and the Thames. Reports also say that Admiral Gambier sailed from the Hook in a ship of 64 guns at the same time, bound for New London. It appears that the aim of the British is to plunder and distress the Connecticut coast. There is also talk of the movement of troops and much boat building on the eastern end of Long Island. In the hand of Robert Hanson Harrison.Fitzpatrick, Washington XIV, 295.Enclosures: [before 26 March 1779], three unnamed New York newspapers.
