John Jay's praiseworthy conduct in withdrawing from the nominating commee for officers of New York State is perhaps to be lamented, because some appointements to New York military offices are not yet settled. Colonel [Henry Beekman] Livingston is not pleased with the two gentlemen proposed as candidates for the position of Lieutenant Colonel in his regiment. He would much prefer Lieutenant Colonel [Pierre] Requier. Livingston has asked Washington to intercede on his behalf.
