Abstract
Memorial to Congress from the subscribers, inhabitants of the City of New York. The crime and misery occasioned by traffic in slaves is disgraceful, and its abolition has been decreed by almost every Christian state. It is an honor to the United States that they have been the first to prohibit the traffic and to punish it as a capital crime. However, this commerce is still carried on to an enormous extent by other maritime nations. Ask that Congress consider adoption of measures to procure concurrence of other nations to effect the complete and final abolition of this degrading activity.
