Abstract
Letter signed. "Duplicates" of documents 569. Endorsed by John Jay. Commends John Jay's conduct and urges him to continue to impress Spain with our gratitude for their friendliness and for what they have done for us. Stress that the United States has no secret negotiation with Britain John Jay can vary his original instructions on a treaty by eliminat ing any reference to it but conforming to the principles of it. The United States will export naval stores to Spain with complete liberty. Assure Caille of American friendship for Morocco and also thank de Neufville and Son. No bills drawn on Jay since December 4. Mentions the instruction of Mississippi. Hopes this will facilitate a treaty and a loan.
