- Abstract
- In pursuance of a resolution of Congress dated Oct. 1, 1783, a copy of which is added at the end of Jay's letter, Jay requests that Carmichael come to Paris with all the books, vouchers and papers bearing on American accounts in Spain. He also requests Carmichael to sell his remaining effects in Spain immediately and before leaving Madrid to the highest bidder. In this way both the public accounts of the United States and the private account between Jay and Carmichael can be settled at one and the same time.
