[Document, 1783 August 14]
Abstract
He has received a letter from Montmorin in which the Count writes that Carmichael showed him Jay's letter of 1 July 1783 and in which Montmorin expresses his opinions on its contents. Since the letter was written by Jay to Carmichael on public business he expected to receive an answer to it from Carmichael (and certainly not from Montmorin.) He repeats his request that Carmichael come to Paris brin ging with him all the original vouchers and documents related to American accounts with Spain without delay so that the accounts can be settled. He wants an explicit answer to his request by return post.
