Mr. Mc Clenachan's only son proposes to go to Europe for his education. Is sending letters by Mr. Vaughan and also Mr. Edward Shippen, Mrs. Arnold's brother. Wishes the Jay family would return to America soon; did not realize until they left how much she needed her brother and sister. Her (Catherine Livingston) health improves daily. Mrs. Morris sick with a cold for three weeks; has caused Kitty to absent herself from the "dissipations of the season." Lord Sterling died in Albany. Thinks all her parents' sisters are now widows. Had some concern about General Chetellux and Count Rochambeau at New York; rumors seem to be unfounded. Send compliments to Mr. and Mrs. Ridley, if she has already arrived. Tell him that Mr. Taylor gave a wonderful wedding in Baltimore in marrying Miss Judith and that Mr. Pringle is making money from consignments.
