- Abstract
- A group of documents relating to Jay's receipt of a loan of 1,780,867 reales and 26 maravedis in the form of 193 royal bills in favor of the United States. Beginning with a "Modele de Recu En Anglois ou en Francois", 11 April, provided to Jay by the Spanish agent. Two drafts by Jay in English of such a receipt, both dated 11 April, with Carmichael's note of 9 May at the foot of one document: "I del ivered by Mr. Jays orders on acct. 28000 Rs. Velln." And a note from Jay to D'Yranda, 13 April, at the foot of the other draft, expressing his "warmest acknowledgment" of D'Yranda's "friendship for my family." And a summary, in Carmichael's hand, of bills drawn on Jay since his arrival in Spain and of funds received from Gardoqui.
