Abstract
Jay lists various discrepancies in the sailor's story that make it highly improbable that John Livingston is at Algiers. The men he is said to have served with on the captured ship, do not appear on the list of the ship in which he sailed. Nevertheless, Jay will transmit copies of the letter to the French and British consuls.
