Jay's wife was alarmed by the paragraph in her father's letter about her
brother. Inquiries of friends in Europe have been unsuccessful. The Marquis deBouilli
has been given great praise for his brilliant enterprise against St. Eustatia. Count de
Montmorin is planning a ball at his home in celebration of the birth of the Dauphin, and
it is said that the 10,000 dollars allowed by France for the occasion will be
insufficient to pay the expenses. Sarah may not be able to be present, however, as she
is expecting her child near that time.
