- Abstract
- Jay's confidence in John Trumbull caused the British to accept him as American nominee for the fifth commissioner. On their part the American commissioners accepted Dr. Swabeye as the British nominee. Trumbull's name was drawn by lot. He looks forward to a reasonably smooth adjustment of the claims between the citizens of the United States and subjects of Britain.
