Abstract
Acknowledges receipt of a letter John Jay wrote in November 1795. Bayard is enclosing the last parts of Madame Roland's works and a letter from Edmund Burke to the Duke of Bedford, which Bayard hopes will afford John Jay pleasure. Bayard cannot refrain from telling John Jay that his speech at the opening of the New York legislature was much praised in England. The first of the cases instituted by B ayard were heard during the past week. The decision was not favorable, but Bayard can perceive no reason for this. In the Court of Admiralty, on the other hand, a favorable decision was made in the first of the Martinique cases. Bayard looks forward to the arrival of the Commissioners to treat with Britain. He hopes that the Ministry will perceive their own advantage in having friendly relations with the United States.
