- Abstract
- He has derived pleasure from his acquaintance with Jay and has a very favorable opinion of his distinguished character. He thanks Jay for everything he has done to facilitate the delicate and arduous task in which he is presently engaged. He is flattered by the way Jay has recommended him in his private correspondence with Washington and Franklin. He hopes Jay will excuse one suggestion Ansley has to make. In Jay's letter of recommendation introducing Ansley to (American) Governors, he should like the word "adjust" to be replaced by the words "enquire into" since Ansley is not empowered to adjust anything. He hopes Jay will not be inconvenienced by this change.
