Abstract
Thanks him for the book on the Resources of Great Britain; if the facts are correct, Britain has less to fear from a long war than a premature peace. Refers to an anecdote on p. 12. If it is meant to be about him, it is incorrect, as he was neither present at the death nor funeral of any French philosopher while in France. Did not have more than two conversations with atheists that he can recall, o ne being with an English doctor who attended someone in his family in Paris. During their only conversation on religion, during which John Jay said that if there is no God there are no moral obligations, and the doctor agreeing but adding they were not necessary, the subject was quickly changed.
