- [Document, 1826 June 22]
- Abstract
- 22 June, to Abiel Holmes. Writes for his father, whose health renders correspondence difficult. Has received his letter with the memoir through Pickering. Is unacquainted with the journal and manuscripts of Judge Dana and is unable to judge the authenticity of the document which Holmes calls his "secret journal." Is therefore withholding permission for the publication of extracts from that journal. 24 June, to Timothy Pickering. Acknowledges receipt of Holmes' letter and memoir for his father, who did not know Pickering's son, Henry, was a resident in New York. His visit will be welcomed.
