Abstract
Embarrassment has occurred in asserting the claim of Mr. Astor to lands in Putnam County due to the loss of the lease accompanying the release which formed the conveyance to Beverly Robinson and Joanna Philipse, on the occasion of the marriage settlement between Roger Morris and Mary Philipse in 1758. Since Governor. Livingston was counsel and friend to the parties, does Jay have any information ab out the lease? Judge Benson testified that in 1784 on returning from Congress he and John Jay were shown the deed of the marriage settlement in question. Encloses a report of the trial containing this testimony. Apologizes for intruding on his retirement.
