- Abstract
- A long detailed letter giving Morris Jay's reasons for recalling Major Franks, a courier, from L'Orient to Madrid, giving him dispatches, and then ordering him back to Nantes to seek passage to America with Marquis de Lafayette. The reason for the expensive journey was that it appeared in October 1781 that the Spanish court was ready to enter into serious negotiations with the United States.
