Encloses abstract of letter from Rufus King, who was asked by Jay to acquire and ship three thousand muskets and bayonets for the state of New York. Not being able to get them in England, King had them made in Hamburg but did not give the price. Prudent to have arms shipped in different vessels. Believes ten thousand dollars more than sufficient; will have it signed over at the Bank of New York by the Comptroller. When arms arrive, should deliver them to the Commissioner General of Military Stores. Will inform Mr. King that Mr. Clarkson will be in charge of the whole transaction.
