Abstract
Had a conversation with Carmarthan concerning the posts and debts owed British merchants. Carmarthan agrees that the interest should not accrue during the war, but noted that these claims are usually based on express clauses in the contracts. To this Adams answered that the parties in making such an agreement did not anticipate that the acts of Parliament would drive the American colonies from the British empire and forbid any intercourse between them and Britain.
