- Abstract
- The Corporation ought to be reimbursed for advancing a sum towards the defense of the City of New York, but there is nothing in the act by the Legislature authorizing such reimbursement. Therefore a proper representation on the subject should be presented by the Corporation at the next session of the Legislature. Jay is not empowered to make Stevens any compensation for his services, but he will al ways be ready to promote any proper measure for the purpose. If the Commissioners for purchasing arms are not authorized to make him compensation, they can certify facts and enable the Legislature to do the right thing. The office of Commissary General merits further attention; Stevens would benefit from a trip of Albany this winter.
