Abstract
Peter Augustus writes in response to Sparks' request for access to John Jay's papers. The request was refused until Peter and William could go through and arrange the papers in accordance with John Jay's will and request. John Jay's reasoning for destroying some of his papers was protection of his correspondents. Peter also inquires as to the sort of book Sparks plans based on his father's papers.
