Abstract
Necker, who had taken refuge in Switzerland, is expected to arrive in Paris to accept his new appointment. Paris is tranquil again. Its militia is being organized. However, the scarcity of wheat may cause new disorders. There have been troubles in other parts of France. A chateau was blown up in Vesoul in Franche compte, but it may have been accidental. Britain has been blamed for much of the viole nce in France, but this has been denied by the British Ambassador in a public letter. The King of England has recovered. He is as loquacious and interested in small talk as before his illness. Because of the turn of events in France, Jefferson is postponing his leave of absence for a while.
