Abstract
Geographers differ in their opinions concerning the number of miles on the earth which are equivalent to a degree in the heavens. Norwood, who measured the distance between London and York with a perambulator and reckoned 69 1/2 feet or 14 poles (a pole being 16 1/2 feet) to a degree. This agrees very nearly with the results of the French Academy of Sciences, which calculated 69 9/50 English miles to a degree. Certified by Goldsbrow Banyar. Entered before the Commission to settle the boundary between New York and New Jersey 21 September 1769.
