- Acknowledges receipt of 2 April. Mr. Van Alen's letter in answer to the one of the same date as the letter sent to John Jay, is enclosed. It seems to John Jay that Van Alen is worthy of the trust Lord Amherst is placing in him. John Jay was pleased to hear of the marriage of Lord Amherst's sister. Enclosure: [ca. 4 September 1799], Van Alen to John Jay.
