[Document, 1798 September 29]
Abstract
Acknowledges receipt of 6 June 1797. John Jay just learned from Mr. Van Alen that the greater part of Lord Amherst's land has been surveyed and that a survey is being sent. The tract is not as valuable as was formerly thought. However, both John Jay and Mr. Van Alen advise Lord Amherst not to sell it at the present time, because land prices are very low.
