Acknowledges receipt, on 7 December, of Washington's letter of 22 October with copies of the articles of capitulation, returns, and General Greene's letter, as well as duplicates of all these. John Jay congratulates Washington and his country on this event, which was achieved under Washington's immediate direction. General Greene, who did much with slender means, merits the commendation of his coun try.
