- Abstract
- Received Vergennes' of 13th March, via Cnt de Montmorin. We have answered earlier if he could have given "Complimentary Professions instead of sincere Assurances." Happy to find personal considerations as well as confidence in good and great Ally prompt unreserved confidence in Ambassador. Gerard has given Jay favorable impression of "this Gentleman" his conduct has been that of a wise Minister and candid Gentleman. Vergennes can rely on Jay giving "all that Confidence...which these Consideration dictate" to Montmorin. Emphasizes attachment to Prince and people of France.
