- Abstract
- Acknowledge receipt of [29?] April, which has removed all difficulties between the House of Staphorst and the Board of Treasury. The letter has also removed the necessity of sending a more formal notice of the appointment of Arthur Lee as Commissioner. In case of future changes in the Board of Treasury, the Staphorsts hope "there will not be a second Neglect of a direct official Communication to us ." That the Staphorst's they are neither incapable nor unworthy of trust may be seen by the enclosed edict of the King of France, appointing them in conjunction with Henry Fizeaux & Co. as Treasurers of his finances in the United Provinces. The loans to the United States are closed and the credit of the United States has greatly improved. If the United States should pass the Impost Act, America's prosperity will be firm and durable, and the United States will be able to extend their loans in Holland. Enclosure: [before 30 June 1786], Edict of the King of France
