- Abstract
- Surprised that her sister has not had letter from her in two years; had sent many. Happy to find mother and Kitty in better health. So happy son has had measles and free from bad effects -- now can meet his little sisters and the rest of the family. Very happy with reports of Peter; modesty sign of merit. Glad for Papa to have rest after eight long years of war, in which he played so great a part. Has sympathy for "mistaken Americans" now exiled from native country. Mixed reception of articles of peace likened to measure of true happiness, as includes shadows and brightness. In October Jay to England for the waters of Bath, but sick with dysentery and fever, still in London to recover. Had sacrificed estate that would have secured their comfort in order "to procure liberty" and hopes providence will not abandon them.
