Abstract
Received Amherst's of 10 September. Some confusion in transmitting information regarding Van Alen's death and successor as Amherst's agent. Van Schaack's suggestion of Evert Van Alen as new agent, seconded by Jay. Jay regrets news of death of Mrs. Pinfold; wishes Amherst health. Jay himself: retired 1801 to paternal estate; blessed with 5 children; de ath of wife and son-in-law. Own health - "I am not very often sick, and yet seldom very well." Obliged to Amherst for assurance of welcome reception to those Jay might recommend.
