Abstract
Acknowledges John Jay's letter of 25 Feb. The "Sketch" was intended by Mr. Vanderkemp as "a mark of his respect" for John Jay's "private virtues and public services." However, in a conversation some time ago Mr. Vanderkemp had expressed the desire to know John Jay's reaction on the "utility" of the proposed work. Mr. Vanderkemp would "be much gratified by any favorable notice You may think proper t o take of his 'Sketch.'"
