- Abstract
- Thinks the Dutch too cautious to help us much at the present. Sensible people in Congress against Lee's motion for independence but for forming a treaty with France and uniting the continent in a confederacy. We must unite with each other before he can form a connection with a foreign power. Only a man with the impudence of a New Englander would suggest otherwise. Plan a motion to postpone the plan for independence for three weeks. The power of New England, Virginia and Georgia is against Livingston, Wilson, Dickinson and myself.
