Looking North on Orchard Street
#2900 Photographer Joseph Morrow? Looking north on Orchard Street from Delancey Street. A reliable informant (Elevator Starter Russell Lake, 105 East 22 St.) says the car at the right is a Model T Ford. Model T's first came on the market in 1909, but this picture was probably taken later as the car does not look fresh off the assembly line. Could it have been taken as late, perhaps, as 1916-1917? I f so, the letter on the back may refer to it. Mr. Marquette was Assistant Secretary of the COS Tenement House Committee as that time. Municipal Bdg. New York Dec 19, 1917 Mr. Marquette Dear Sir- I have not located neg of crowded street but I got a print of it which you may be able to use altho its not a fresh copy. I tried the Essex St. Bdg yesterday but the day was such that a good neg could not be obtained. We’ll try again first good opportunity but it would be better to wait until the Bdg is occupied as at present it [doesn’t] look good. The other prints are ready if you could send a messenger or office boy in the morning he can have the prints. I have added one or two others that may be useful. Faithfully yours, Joseph Morrow
