Boys Playing in Open Fire Hydrants, Lower East Side
Abstract
Looking North on Elizabeth Street from Spring. The crosstown street shown is Prince. This photo is similar to #4474, but seems to have been taken earlier, as there are not as many fire escapes and the street sign is still on the lamp post. The building in the background on the left, with the square structure on the roof, is Wanamaker's Department Store (built in 1905) between 8th and 9th streets, a nd covering hte block from Broadway to Astor Place.
