- Summary
- Conveys thanks of a free people to George Washington on behalf of the Continental Congress. The disinterested and patriotic principles which led you to the field have also lead you to glory. Under your direction an undisciplined band of husbandmen became soldiers in a few months. You have checked an experienced army led by generals employed by bad men in the worst of causes. You and your men have the approbation of the people of your country. Informs him that Congress has ordered a gold medal to be made and presented to him.
