- Summary
- Has sent his letter of 19 March to Congress for their consideration. Gardoqui here and negotiations will commence soon. Hopes his instructions will be sufficiently extensive to be able to settle our boundaries on principles which will perpetuate cordiality. Appears that Britain wishes to hold the frontier posts as she cultivates the Indians and American settlers. Our love of liberty and enterprise will finally bear fruit in this area. Our commercial class looks to Congress to remedy their discontents and in time restrictions on our trade will lead to a stronger union. Congress does business with great concord, temper and harmony.
