- Summary
- Thanks the Jay family for kindness to Mrs. Vaughan in both England and New York. Has decided to settle in the town of Hallowell on the Kennebeck River in Maine, on land granted by the Plymouth Company. Many family members live nearby. Will retire into private life but plans on publishing 'The Life of a Peasant' , which he sees as providing a useful example of an industrious and morally upright worker. In a new country like Kennebeck, concerns are religion, morals, education, agriculture and real comforts. Believes Massachusetts will continue to govern Maine, saving them the trouble of creating a new constitution.
