- Summary
- Has received the pamphlet on the Society for the Benefit of Indians and a request for his views on the subjects in it. His health will not enable him to treat the topics comprehensively. Accurate knowledge on the circumstances of the Indians will be furnished by Morse's published report to the Secretary at War, to which John Jay will subscribe. It should be ascertained how much responsibility the government will assume, and what is to be left to the management of the Society.
