- Asks Jay's aid in traveling to London in order to try to straighten out some of his accounts. In very meager circumstances with hardly enough to live on. Congress has done nothing about his back accounts. Happy over the peace and congratulates Jay on the negotiation. Believes he (Deane) served his country faithfully while in her service and only wants a peaceful retirement and no preferment by any government. Has no prospect of any.
