- Summary
- Minutes of 1776 are in John Jay's hand. Appointed by the Provincial Convention September 21, 1776. Members were John Jay, William Duer, Charles De Witt, Leonard Gansevoort, Zephaniah Platt and Nathaniel Sachett. On October 15 Pierre Van Cortlandt added. Later additions were Lewis Morris and John Ten Broeck. Began work on Sept. 28 and dissolved February 15, 1777 when a commission was appointed of Benson, Swarthout, and Melancton Smith to continue detecting conspiracies. It ended operations Sept. 10, 1777, was revived October 7 and lasted until January 14, 1778. Another group set up by the state legislature between February 5, 1778-September 23, 1778.
