- Summary
- Jay has long conversation with Franklin at Passy. His presence at Paris not urgently needed right now. Saw Vergennes next day and his position on the negotiation very moderate. Fox and Shelburne do not seem to be united on policy and Rodney's success will probably make the British less interested in a quick peace. Has not seen Aranda yet. Encloses his letter to him. Adams cannot be here at present. Franklin in perfect health and mentally vigorous, a valuable minister and a good companion.
