Summary
Jay sorry that Cabarrus' conduct has not been uniformly friendly. Grateful for Cabarrus' aid but there was no great risk involved and America was bound to pay the loans. There was no advance to Jay to quiet d'Yranda. All that was done was the exchange of specie which Jay had for paper. Jay drew on Franklin for a quarter of his salary at a time and Cabarrus had nothing to do with detaining any part of this money to pay off the balance Jay owed him. Cabarrus did facilitate the receipt of the $26,000 but Jay feels it indelicate to mention it as if it were such a great risk. Thinks Cabarrus was quite unfair in at first accepting the offer of France or Spain to pay Jay's bills and then setting up such impossible terms for repayment that they would not accept them and thus forcing Jay to let them be protested.
