Summary
At Mrs. Gouverneur Morris's request, he is sending Sparks the book and some letters which she lent him. As the letters are now in the possession of William Jay, he will write for them. Cannot remember any papers of his father which would be useful on Morris's early life. His own knowledge of the history of the latter is superficial; knows he was admitted to the bar very early, was active at the beginning of the Revolution, was a member of the state constitutional convention, became an assistant to R. Morris, was sent to Congress by Pennsylvania, and went to Europe as agent or partner of R. Morris. Purchased Morrisania from his half-brother in the British Army; his other half-brother, Lewis, was a "good Whig."
