Summary
Received his letter from June 9th that enclosed the case of the Snow Jukey and of the Brigantine Maria. Also received letter from July 9th about an American ship, loaded with powder, carried into Bermuda. As the letter demonstrated the government's desire to investigate problems rather than avoid them, sent it and other documents to the minister. Still trying for final settlement; outcome still uncertain. Believes next meeting could be decisive, although delays inevitable. Sir William Scott, the king's advocate, is preparing instructions for Americans who have appeals and claims to bring forward, at Jay's request. As no legal court of vice-admiralty at Martinique, condemnations there null; claims can be prosecuted in England.
