Summary
Jay sends an extract of a letter of 27 May from Jefferson to him and
copies of the contract between the Farmer's General and Robert Morris and a letter from
Vergennes to Jefferson. The information in these letters should be known but not
published. The contract between the Farmer's General and Morris to be fulfilled but no
new agreements of this kind to buy tobacco to be made. The Farmer's General also to buy
in addition 12 to 15,000 hogsheads of tobacco from America while the contract in
force.
